  23. In e-mail Jeff Altman took exception to my implication here that
  24. C-Kermit for OS/2 was not a modern application.  I admit to having
  25. spoken out of ignorance, assuming that C-K was C-K, and the OS/2
  26. version would look like the C-K I was used to in unix and VMS shell
  27. accounts.  He suggested that I check out the promo on the Columbia web
  28. page.

  30. Well, it seems that C-Kermit for OS/2 has an internal dialing
  31. directory, and it also has a scrollback buffer with search, mark, and
  32. copy, presumably inherited from OS/2.  These are Good Things (tm).

  34. But I missed any mention of an internal configuration program
  35. (essential for the average user, IMO), a plain-text log file, or
  36. script I/O piped through the active emulation (essential for script
  37. writing) -- all of which I would consider basic "modern" features.

  39. The promo was short, though, and I couldn't find any more complete
  40. docs, even in the download package.  Maybe Mr. Altman could fill us in
  41. on how the OS/2 C-Kermit interface differs from that of MS-Kermit?

  43. By the way, let me make it perfectly clear, as I believe I have in
  44. previous messages, that I am in no way criticizing the *functionality*
  45. of any version of Columbia Kermit.  There is no question whatsoever
  46. that *that* is cutting edge.  The only issue is why more people don't
  47. use Kermit, particularly MS-Kermit, as their primary terminal program.
